ABOUT ANANDI

ANANDI in Gujarati signifies Joyfulness and it is our endeavour that all our struggles and work help make this world a joyful place for all. ANANDI’s vision is to bring rural women’s concerns in the centre of all development processes so that all can live in a just, equitable and peaceful society. Values of justice freedom and fraternity guide the mission of promoting women and young leaders to work towards social justice, sustainable development and accountable governance. Building and strengthening rural women led community-based organisations for sustainable livelihoods, rights and entitlements and violence free society for women, youth and children from tribal, Dalit, de-notified tribes and other marginalised communities are core areas of ANANDI’s work since 1995.

ANANDI Technical Support Unit formed in 2017, consolidates its experience and learnings from engagement with diverse communities and stakeholders to institutionalize good practice, knowledge and capacity building. ATSU as part of ANANDI extends technical, knowledge and capacity building support to diverse organisations in gender mainstreaming programs with focus on livelihoods, health and nutrition, women’s empowerment and women’s rights. ATSU is strongly rooted in feminist organising and engages with stakeholders to integrate gender transformative processes in their programs

Join the campaign to strengthen Women Farmers of Gujarat

ANANDI (Area Networking and Development Initiatives), since 1995 has been working with women, youth, and children from tribal, Dalit, de-notified tribes and other marginalized communities of rural Gujarat towards social justice, sustainable development, and accountable governance. Reaching support to women farmers for seeds and agroecological practices has been the priority for ANANDI to mitigate the impact of the pandemic on their livelihoods. However, due to incessant rainfall in Dahod, Panchmahal, and Morbi districts of Gujarat, massive crop failure has led to further setback to already struggling small and marginalized women farmers. Leaving them with empty grain banks at home, large debts, and a sense of hopelessness. We would like to reach out to 1000 worst affected women farmers in rural Gujarat and to support them with collective banks of small mechanical tools to reduce women’s drudgery in agricultural operations and Rabbi seasons input that will ensure food and nutrition security to farmer household for four to six months. What We Do

FIELD LEVEL INTERVENTIONS

ANANDI works directly with communities in 4 districts of Gujarat – Panchamahaals, Dahod, Morbi and Bhavnagar. Since 1995 ANANDI started working in some of the vulnerable and marginalized communities to address issues of sustainable livelihoods, safety and security of women and young girls, ensuring entitlements, strengthening governance and improving access to quality education

WOMEN’S LEADERSHIP BUILDING

ANANDI began its work with a clear mission that it would invest in creating grassroots women’s leadership so that they can influence and shape the development agenda to address their needs. In doing so ANANDI has nurtured 7 grass roots women’s organizations to address the diverse needs of women.

CAMPAIGNS AND NETWORKING

In working towards gender equality with an empowerment approach the key strategies used are organizing campaigns for awareness, changing community’s mindsets to alter the gender relations. Networking with likeminded organizations at multiple level enables local to global connections required reach the goal of gender equality.

FEMINIST RESEARCH AND ADVOCACY

From early on ANANDI undertook action research projects to create a bridge between feminist praxis and theory by putting out papers that drew lessons and reflections from our field based work. This also formed the basis of our advocacy and research work.
